NRP Training

NRP Training
Course Description

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) course is designed to give the healthcare professionals the basic knowledge to care for the neonatal patient in cardiac arrest and to manage resuscitation efforts in conditions that may lead to arrest. This course will provide the skills necessary to resuscitate a newborn and to work smoothly as a team with other healthcare professionals. The NRP Course has been updated to reflect new science and education from the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Guidelines.

Principles of resuscitation, initial steps of resuscitation, use of resuscitation devices, chest compressions, endotracheal intubation, laryngeal mask airway insertion, umbilical venous cannulation, medication administration, special considerations, and resuscitation of preterm infants and ethics and care at the End of Life.

Course objectives
At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
  • Discuss five principles of neonatal resuscitation
  • Correctly perform the initial steps in neonatal resuscitation
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of resuscitation devices for positive pressure ventilation during neonatal resuscitation
  • Demonstrate appropriate chest compressions during neonatal resuscitation
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective techniques for endotracheal intubation during neonatal resuscitation
  • Demonstrate the appropriate administration of medications during neonatal resuscitation
  • Discuss and perform medical and nursing interventions for special situations related to neonatal resuscitation
  • Demonstrate appropriate and effective implementation of resuscitation strategies for babies born preterm
  • Discuss appropriate interventions to implement during situations where the end of life is considered or occurring
Target Audience
  • The intended audience for this course includes pediatricians, emergency physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals who may be involved in the first critical moments of a newborn infant’s life. The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) course format requires learners to self-study the material from the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, latest edition, and take a mandatory online examination before attending their NRP course.
Course Duration
  • 6 hours (1 day)
Course Completion Card Type
